Extension of the Right to Breastfeeding Breaks to 12 Months

According to recently adopted legislation, the right of working mothers to take a break during the workday for breastfeeding or providing additional care for their child has been extended from nine (9) to twelve (12) months after the child’s birth.

The new regulation stipulates that working mothers may leave the workplace for one hour per day to breastfeed or provide additional care for their child, while their labor rights remain fully protected.

This measure enhances support for working mothers during a crucial stage of a child’s development, ensuring the ability to combine parental responsibilities with job security. At the same time, the new legislation fosters the creation of a more inclusive and family-oriented work environment.

Furthermore, these changes ease the transition for women returning to the workforce after maternity leave, promoting their social and economic engagement and professional growth.

The extension of this right marks significant progress in social policy and represents an important step toward achieving a balance between career and family life. It also underscores the government’s commitment to supporting women and strengthening institutional support for families.

The Government is expected to soon accelerate the advancement of legislation to extend maternity leave.
